Fay Creek
Aquatic Ecology
Bridges
This project will restore natural channel and riparian conditions at the Salmon Creek Road crossing of Fay Creek, near its confluence with Salmon Creek. Following storm damage where the existing culvert was washed out, the County completed emergency repairs to maintain road access while securing funding for this restoration. The project replaces the failed culvert with a clear-span bridge, reestablishing a continuous channel. Rock slope protection is limited to the bridge abutments; all other banks receive bioengineered treatments and native riparian plantings that will mature over time. The project enhances habitat for coho salmon and California freshwater shrimp and enables future salmonid restoration in Fay Creek. Herrera, as a subconsultant to BCA, is responsible for the project’s stream restoration and bioengineering design, which includes the geomorphic assessment, the In-Stream Basis of Design, and the bioengineered bank treatments and riparian plantings that carry the bank work beyond the abutment rock slope protection.
