Bellevue Mitigation Site Monitoring
In support of US Army Corps of Engineers and local permit compliance, the City of Bellevue Utilities Department is required to report on the status of mitigation projects. Herrera is assisting the City with a multi-year contract that includes monitoring and reporting of in-stream, riparian, and wetland conditions at over a dozen restoration and mitigation areas within Bellevue. Herrera is conducting annual vegetation monitoring at City of Bellevue mitigation sites. Monitoring efforts included reviewing design plans and monitoring requirements, establishing transects and photo points, identifying and calculating percent cover of native and invasive plant species, assessing the general health of vegetation communities, and observing wildlife. The monitoring reports included an assessment of performance standard criteria, a determination of the mitigation site success in meeting the necessary criteria, and recommendations for supplemental planting or maintenance for each site.
