City of Seattle Stormwater Code and Manual Update
Herrera worked with the City of Seattle to update the City’s stormwater code and manual in order to stay compliant with the Department of Ecology. Herrera facilitated biweekly core team meetings with City staff from multiple departments and provided support to assist with critical implementation steps associated with technical and policy issues. One of the primary goals of the 2016 Seattle Stormwater Manual was to develop a more user friendly document. The update also focused on clarifying which design requirements differed from Ecology’s requirements to streamline the language. Substantial updates were also made to the design sections for bioretention and permeable pavement. Herrera conducted extensive modeling and data analysis to develop tools for the manual including the On-site Stormwater Management – List Approach Calculator and Pre-Sized Flow Control Calculator.
