Astoria Nordic Heritage Park
The Astoria Scandinavian Heritage Society sought to create a public park in downtown Astoria to honor the immigrant tradition that brought thousands of Scandinavians and immigrants from Northern Lands to Oregon’s North Coast in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Developed over three years and refined with community input, the park will feature a large plaza with a Midsummer pole, interpretive signage, granite pillars for each of the five Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland) and a well-planned and accessible layout.
Final design was reviewed and approved by the City of Astoria Parks and Recreation Board, the Historic Landmarks Commission, and the Astoria City Council. Construction is expected to began in fall of 2021.
