Recap: PNCWA Spring Summit Workshop on 6PPDQ

The 2025 Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association (PNCWA) Spring Summit featured a workshop titled “From Awareness to Action: How Public Agencies, Non-Profits, and the Private Sector are Addressing 6PPDQ”, hosted by Julianne Chechanover, PE with co-hosts Shannon Kronz and Dan Gariepy. The session brought together water experts to discuss the emerging contaminant, 6PPDQ, its impact on coho salmon, and efforts to mitigate its effects.

Presentations by Shelby Giltner, Madison Rose Bristol, Katie Byrnes, Carly Greyell, Tim Clark, and Katie Holzer offered a deep dive into research and solutions being implemented to address this critical environmental issue.
After the workshop, Dylan Ahearn, PhD, led an informative tour of WSDOT’s Ship Canal BMP Testing Facility with Carla Milesi and co-hosted a tour with David Burger from Stewardship Partners about their Adopt-a-Downspout program.

Julianne shares about her experience, “Hosting a workshop on 6PPDQ was an incredibly rewarding experience. I loved how the speakers and audience were collaborative and brainstorming new ideas for 6PPDQ research and implementation. Going on a tour of WSDOT’s Ship Canal BMP Testing Facility and Stewardship Partners’ Adopt-a-Downspout program was a great way to see cutting-edge 6PPDQ research in action.”
