Herrera’s Coastal Restoration Work at Clayton Beach

Herrera is collaborating with Northwest Straits Foundation (NWSF) on the Clayton Beach Nearshore Restoration project. Clayton Beach is a favorite local beach for people in Bellingham and visitors to Larrabee State Park. This multi-phase project aims to remove historical debris that currently functions as shoreline armor on the beach, which is located at the south end of the State Park.

Through this project, Herrera will support feasibility assessments to develop and compare a range of restoration alternatives that will optimize nearshore habitat conditions, work within existing land use constraints, and opportunities. Once a preferred alternative has been identified, Herrera will develop the preferred conceptual restoration design, providing NWSF with permitting and construction support services.

Herrera staff have a history of collaborating with NWSF on several restoration projects throughout the Pacific Northwest, including the restoration of Polnell Point, Fort Townsend State Park nearshore restoration, in addition to providing technical support for their Shore Friendly Program across the north Sound.

Our team looks forward to continuing our partnership with NWSF to restore and protect marine resources across the Salish Sea region.
