Wayne Watne Presents at Storming the Sound

By

Join us in LaConner, Washington at 8:30 am tomorrow to participate in educational outreach for our own backyard! Herrera’s Wayne Watne will be presenting at tomorrow’s Storming the Sound (STS) Conference 2024

The conference supports Northwest Aquatic and Marine Educators (NAME)‘s goal of science education for the north Puget Sound area. It facilitates learning and sharing alongside communities, including the Counties of Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, Island, Jefferson, and San Juan. Science industry professionals like Wayne, a senior fisheries biologist, come together to share science education with community members, making it accessible to the public. This collaboration has progressed local environmental education since 1999, when the first conference was held at Padilla Bay Reserve.

Wayne’s presentation will be on Habitat Loss and Lessons Learned in Washington Fish Passage, focusing on the lesser-discussed impacts to fish habitat loss, cost-effective ways to restore fish passage, and lastly a reminder that salmon have shown remarkable resilience and response to restoration.

Herrera is proud to support community involvement and provides volunteer benefit hours to allow employees at all levels to participate in their local communities. Additionally, Herrera’s core values include “research and outreach, learn, and teach”. We love seeing Wayne embodying the spirit!
