Julianne Chechanover Co-Hosts Tour of Seattle Public Utilities’ Ship Canal Water Quality Project
On August 1, 2024, Julianne Chechanover co-hosted a tour of the Seattle Public Utilities’ (SPU) Ship Canal Water Quality Project in Ballard for the Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association (PNCWA).
Julianne and her co-host, Brandon Moss from Parametrix, organized a tour for approximately 30 professionals to learn more about the 2.7-mile, 18-ft, and 10-in internal-diameter underground tunnel that extends from Ballard to Wallingford. SPU staff Keith Ward and Asa Reyes-Chavez educated attendees about how the tunnel can capture and temporarily store more than 30 million gallons of untreated stormwater and sewage during heavy storm events before being treated at the West Point Treatment Plant.
After the presentation, the group viewed the 107-ft deep, 80-ft diameter vertical shaft at the site and participated in a group photo in front of the drop shaft.
