Nicole Stern, PLA

Principal Landscape Architect

My work is grounded in the belief that healing ecological communities is deeply interconnected with resilience for human communities. I’m passionate about designing nature-based solutions and integrated living water systems. I thrive collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams on watershed planning, restoration, green infrastructure, and native and edible landscape projects across ecoregions for diverse client partnersAlthough I am a native Californian, I’ve also called the Chesapeake Bay watershed and the high desert Southwest home.

Favorite Species:
As a mega plant geek, picking one species is challenging but top of my list is the California Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens). I love how they grow only in a narrow band of CA close to the coastal fog and remind me of growing up in the California Bay Area. A redwood forest with a view of the Pacific Ocean always feels like my native habitat. I attribute my interest in ecology to a mystical 3rd grade field trip to Muir Woods.
