Ellen McClure

Principal Geomorphologist, Portland Regional Director

Having a career focused on protecting and restoring streams, wetlands, and other natural landscapes suits me well because it integrates things that are meaningful to me: environmental stewardship, connecting with people, and taking on practical challenges.

On a good day, my non-work parallel universe is spent in the outdoors—whether biking, hiking, backpacking, or finding some other “microadventure.”

Favorite Species:
The American Dipper—it’s the only aquatic songbird in North America. I love that it’s understated in its plumage, but livens up streams with its intrepid underwater foraging and beautiful song. The Pacific banana slug and the licorice fern tie for second place.
