Betsy Lyons

Senior Restoration Planner

As an ecologist by day and painting enthusiast at night, I enjoy the restoration and transformation of landscapes and people. Formally trained as a botanist, I was drawn to the rivers, estuaries, and nearshore habitats in the Pacific Northwest. For the past 20 years I’ve focused on large, complex conservation and utility projects and partnerships. At Herrera, I’m interested in working with our clients to shape the region’s landscape for the future.

Education:
M.S. Environmental Studies, Evergreen State College
B.S. Botany, University of Washington
Favorite Species:
Mountain hemlock – Tsuga mertensiana – I love the mountain areas these trees call home and love how each one of them literally displays their life story on their limbs in such unique and beautiful forms.
Hidden Talent:
Finding things – rare plants, hidden connections, grammatical errors, and missing keys.
