Former Elk Plain Roads Maintenance Facility

Spanaway, WA

Herrera completed a Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RI/FS) at the former Elk Plain Roads Maintenance Facility, and assisted a national home builder that purchased the site with obtaining No Further Action (NFA). The work was conducted with assistance from Ecology through the expedited Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP), and included evaluating five remedial action alternatives to address 33,000 cubic yards of soils mixed with asphalt grindings. We worked with the builder’s civil engineer to modify the site layout, prepared a Cleanup Action Plan (CAP), and and designed an onsite consolidation area with clean soil cap. For the final step in obtaining NFA status, Herrera worked with Ecology and the builder to prepare an Environmental Covenant.

By the Numbers

Addressed 25 areas of concern and capped 33,000 CY of contaminated soils onsite.
