Herrera evaluated a recently built and underperforming regional stormwater treatment facility serving 128 acres in the Lake Whatcom watershed. The assessment included a review of the original design documents, the as-built facility, and the tributary basin. Herrera developed a hydraulic and hydrologic model of the basin and the facility, evaluated the condition of the treatment media including hydraulic conductivity at different depths, and performed flow monitoring to validate the modeling. A technical memo was written to describe the findings of the assessment, as well as recommend modifications to the treatment medias, operations, and structural and conveyance elements to improve the ongoing performance and operation of the facility.
