Herrera Celebrates Opening of New Multimodal Terminal at Colman Dock

Herrera is excited to see the grand opening of Seattle’s new multimodal terminal at Colman Dock. Starting November 18th, the new ferry terminal will welcome passengers traveling to Bremerton and Bainbridge Island.

The Washington State Department of Transportation Ferries Division (WSF) began construction in 2016 to maintain the dock’s critical role in public transportation amidst its aging infrastructure by replacing the north timber trestle of the dock with a new concrete trestle made to withstand large earthquakes.

Herrera assisted WSF with characterizing sediment quality, preparing a sediment cleanup plan, and designing a containment cap to isolate contaminated sediment and provide functional habitat for the benthic community and migrating salmon. In addition, Herrera provided cap construction oversight and conducted additional sediment chemistry monitoring to ensure cleanup benchmarks were met for each of the five phases of construction.

Our team is proud to see the new terminal open to the public and looks forward to continuing our work to restore and protect Seattle’s natural resources.
