River & Stream Restoration

How well we integrate surface water resources with the built environment today will influence the quality and resilience of our communities for decades to come. Herrera believes taking a holistic watershed approach results in the best long-term, self-mitigating designs, so we study physical and biological processes to inform our nature-based solutions. We conducted some of the first engineered placements of large wood in the Pacific Northwest nearly 20 years ago, and our resume has since expanded to include levee removals and setbacks, channel creation and relocation projects, and culvert and bridge replacements. With full knowledge of a changing climate, we actively adapt our design standards and modeling scenarios so that money spent today will benefit present and future generations.
