2024 Construction Spotlight Part 8: Scriber Lake Park Improvements

By Stacie Chapman

This project increases year-round accessibility to Scriber Lake Park. This site is underlain with 20-50′ thickness of peat, requiring a pile-supported structure. The structure site needs to support boardwalk users and the weight of construction equipment.

Project: Scriber Lake Park Improvements

Location: Lynnwood, WA

Community Benefit: This project will provide year-round recreation and ADA access to the City’s only lake. The lake is also a peat fen, which is a very sensitive and unique ecological habitat in the region.

Design Challenge: This site is underlain with 20-50′ thickness of peat, requiring a pile-supported structure. The structure site needs to support boardwalk users and the weight of construction equipment as site soils are very weak.

Construction completion date: July 2025

Project Summary: This project will replace approximately 1,100 linear feet of mulch trail that is frequently flooded in winter and is not ADA accessible with an elevated steel boardwalk trail.
