For decades WSDOT has been planning a critical missing link in Washington’s highway network: extending State Route (SR) 167 from the City of Puyallup to SR 509 amid the Port of Tacoma. WSDOT is currently developing the design of this project, which involves approximately 6 miles of new interstate highway amid a flat and wet landscape. As key members of the consultant team, Herrera wetland biologists are leading the effort to delineate wetlands and streams within the project corridor, characterize existing habitat conditions, and forging a strategy for mitigating impacts to approximately 25 acres of wetlands in the project area.
