Sun Canyon Road Resurfacing
Herrera prepared a Biological Resources, Wetlands and Waters of the U.S. report for the Sun Canyon Road resurfacing project to evaluate the project’s potential effects on aquatic resources and wildlife. Herrera biologists performed a literature review and visited the site to identify wetlands, Waters of the U.S., wildlife habitat, noxious weeds, threatened and endangered species, and species of concern that could potentially be affected by the project.
Sun Canyon Road provides public access to popular recreation areas and traverses the Sun Canyon Wildlife Management Area. It is a primary access point to the Rocky Mountain Front, the only access to Gibson Reservoir and the USFS Gibson Reservoir recreational site. It also provides access to several campgrounds and trailheads. In addition to public recreational access, Sun Canyon Road is used to access grazing allotments, cattle, and guest ranches, and for accessing Gibson Reservoir and Diversion Lake for dam maintenance.
