Silver Beach Creek Water Quality Retrofit
Herrera is working with Whatcom County to design and permit a water quality retrofit to treat runoff from over 22 acres of residential development in the Lake Whatcom watershed. This project was identified as a priority in Whatcom County’s Lake Whatcom Stormwater Capital Program Update to reduce phosphorus and bacteria loading in the stormwater runoff reaching the lake and is one of the first projects to be implemented. A modular wetland treatment system will be installed along an existing conveyance network to remove an estimated 13.2 pounds of phosphorus annually. Construction will occur during the earthwork window between June and September 2021. Herrera designed the water quality facility and conveyance improvements, prepared design reports, supported the County with critical areas permitting, produced the bid documents for this project, and is supporting County staff through the construction phase. Herrera delivered this project on-time, under budget, and met the County’s stormwater goals towards meeting the TMDL.
