Cedar Hills Landfill Development Alternatives
Working with our limited resources takes smart collaborative planning, and Herrera is developing forward-looking strategies to manage regional solid waste. The Cedar Hills Regional Landfill (the largest landfill in Washington State) is projected to reach its capacity in 2028. Herrera is leading a team of solid waste facility specialists who are helping King County revise the landfill’s site development plan and extend its capacity to 2040. During 2016 and early 2017, the team developed conceptual layouts for 10 development alternatives, screened and prioritized the alternatives based on selected criteria, took the five top alternatives to 20 percent design to facilitate detailed cost estimating and lifecycle economic modeling, and worked with King County to further integrate site-wide development planning into business planning. During 2019 and 2020, Herrera will develop a SEPA environmental impact statement to evaluate the top development alternatives.
