Join Team Herrera for Survive the Sound 2021!

On your mark, get set, SWIM! Registration is now open for Survive the Sound. Created by Seattle-based nonprofit Long Live the Kings, Survive the Sound gives participants the chance to follow the migration paths of real fish while learning about efforts to recover salmon and steelhead in Puget Sound. This free, interactive game is open to the public, with all donations helping Long Live the Kings save salmon for our orca and local communities.

Check out Herrera’s fish, Anna Dromous, and join Team Herrera here. A larger team increases your chances of winning with the most surviving fish. From May 3-7, we’ll watch the fish migrate on an interactive online map from their home stream to the Pacific Ocean and see who survives.

Survive the Sound aligns with Herrera’s mission to create a sustainable environment for wildlife to thrive. Unfortunately, all Puget Sound wild Chinook salmon and steelhead fish are listed as ‘Threatened’ under the Endangered Species Act, with Wild Puget Sound steelhead at less than 10% of their historic population. In addition, 16 of the 38 Chinook populations have gone extinct, threatening resident orca populations who need salmon to survive.

Education remains the first step in saving these species from extinction. Join the race today to develop a deeper connection to the local environment and the movement that is growing to protect it!
