Biologist’s Bliss – An In-house Class Dr. Sarah Spear Cook

Herrera restoration scientists and landscape architects undertook an advanced plant identification training led by Dr. Sarah Spear Cooke, a regional botanical expert. Herrera designs  vegetation restoration that is finely calibrated to site conditions. The Herrera technical design team undertakes specialized trainings like this to stay on top of ongoing research in native plant tolerances, particularly in aquatic environments. Species resistance to scour, inundation, fluctuating water tables, poor soils and extreme drought are just a few of the conditions our restoration sites exhibit.  In order to ensure successful structural and habitat restoration and meet other vegetation goals (e.g. sequester sediments, pollutants, and nutrients), our scientists bring the best available current science to project designs.
