Taylor Cross Co-presents at the 45th NAAMLP Conference

By

Taylor Cross, an engineer in Herrera’s Missoula office, presented at the 45th National Association of Abandoned Mine Lands Program (NAAMLP) Conference, held in Canaan Valley, WV, September 22-25, 2024. The conference, themed “Member States and Tribes Working Together to Reinvest, Reimagine, and Restore the Nation’s Abandoned Mine Lands,” focused on knowledge-sharing, networking, and showcasing projects aimed at restoring environments affected by historic mining activities.

Taylor co-presented with Kelby Wilkison from Tri-hydro Corporation on “Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation Using SIBERIA Erosion Modeling Software and Carlson Natural Regrade GEOFLUV™.” Their presentation demonstrated how advanced modeling and geomorphic design were applied to create stable, ecologically restorative landforms at Wyoming’s Shirley Basin Uranium District.

“This approach is new and challenging, but the results have been very encouraging,” Taylor said. “It’s exciting to be part of something so innovative, and we hope our findings inspire others to adopt similar techniques.”
