Herrera is designing an industrial stormwater conveyance and treatment system at the Port of Olympia’s 65 acre marine terminal. The terminal is used for log storage and handling. Log yard runoff is very difficult to treat. Achieving the Industrial Stormwater General Permit’s benchmarks, especially for chemical oxygen demand (COD), is a challenge that has yet to be won. Herrera scientists and engineers developed several technologies that show promising bench scale results. We recently installed a pilot project on the Port’s site to further test the methodology. Herrera will be performing the engineering design for the conveyance and treatment system over the next year.
